Drought Tolerant Rice: Experimental Design, Phenotyping and Breeding Approaches

DESCRIPTION

This course covers the stages and components of developing drought tolerant rice including plant breeding, physiology and crop management approaches. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to plan, design and execute their own experiments related to drought tolerance.

OBJECTIVES
  • Provide understanding of important aspects of experimental planning and design
  • Provide detailed understanding of phenotyping techniques related to grain yield and physiological traits under drought
  • Provide basic knowledge about breeding techniques and trait selection criteria for drought tolerance
  • Provide understanding of crop management practices for drought-prone environment
  • Provide basic knowledge about molecular approaches suitable for drought breeding programs and discuss case studies
  • Enable participants to independently design their own experiments related to drought breeding and physiology
