Project Eligibility
Any proposed project within the Center’s priority thrust of Natural Resource Management and Agricultural Competitiveness is eligible provided that the project:
- is innovative and is accompanied by an appropriate plan for developing it into a potentially large-scale research/training program greatly relevant to the agricultural and development needs of the region;
- has strong potential for generating significant long-term funding support; and
- can be completed within a period not exceeding one year.
Proponent Qualification
- A Southeast Asian national of good moral character.
- A graduate of at least a four-year degree.
- Without significant funding support.
Process of Paper Submission
Send hard copies of the proposal through courier and an advance copy via electronic mail.

- Provide five (5) hard copies of your proposal stapled separately (no need to put in a folder).
- Send it on an envelope addressed to the Manager.
B. Via Electronic Mail

SEARCA Graduate Scholarship (SY 2007-2008)
Any interested national of a SEAMEO member country may apply for scholarship with the any one of the Ministries of Education, Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, and Rural Development of his/her country. Application forms and information brochures on the universities that may serve as study posts of SEARCA scholars are made available at said Ministries of each SEAMEO member country.
Each applicant is required to submit to any one of said Ministries the following documents:
1. SEARCA Scholarship Application Form (2 copies);
2. Application forms for admission to the Graduate School of the universities where the applicant may pursue graduate studies under SEARCA scholarship;
3. Official transcript of academic records of each degree completed;
4. Certification of employment;
5. A write-up on agricultural competitiveness or natural resource management;
6. A study plan that specifies the major and minor fields and courses to be taken (information on courses/subjects/programs of study can be found in each university’s academic catalog);
7. A brief description of the research the applicant plans to conduct for thesis/dissertation. The research topic must be in line with the priority thrusts of SEARCA. (The SEARCA Five-Year Plan may be viewed at http://web.searca.org/elib_list.asp?Category=reports.)
8. Two copies of passport-size pictures of the applicant;
9. Certification from a medical doctor that the applicant is in good physical and mental health condition and is fit to undertake graduate studies; and
10. English proficiency test or TOEFL (score of 500) or IELTS results (5.0).

SEARCA PhD Research Scholarships |

SEARCA PhD Research Scholarships
SEARCA offers a new grants program called SEARCA PhD Research Scholarship Program, which provides financial support to a limited number of qualified PhD students whose researches are relevant to the priority thrusts of SEARCA. This new scholarship program aims to provide PhD students the opportunity to use the resources and facilities available at SEARCA and its network of universities for their research. It also intends to help PhD students produce quality research papers for publication and enable them to work with SEARCA’s R&D personnel on mutually identified areas of concerns/interests in agriculture and rural development. The research scholars are required to spend two months at SEARCA and present a seminar related to the research.
Any graduate student pursuing a PhD in agriculture or related sciences from any SEAMEO member country is eligible to apply for the scholarship. The applicant’s research must focus on any of SEARCA’s priority thrusts under the broad themes of natural resource management and promotion of agricultural competitiveness.
The application requirements are:
1) Filled out Application Form (see below);
2) Letter of application for the research scholarship;
3) Recommendation letter from the Dean of Graduate School of the university
where the student is pursuing his/her degree program;
4) Dissertation research outline/proposal approved by the Advisory Committee
and Dean of Graduate School;
5) Budgetary requirement for the entire research duly attested and recommended by the major adviser and Dean of Graduate School;
6) Letter from the student certifying that he/she is not receiving any other research grant from any other institution. If partial funding has been obtained from other sources, a certification from the funding agency indicating the amount of grant and the items in the research that are covered by the grant; and
7) Research timetable indicating the activities involved in the research, the expected date of defense and expected date of seminar paper presentation. Applications should be addressed to the Manager, Graduate Scholarship Department, SEARCA, College 4031 Laguna, Philippines.
For PhD scholarships for school year 2006-2007, the deadline for applications is 1 April 2006.
